Sight words are the most common words in the English language. Most of the time they are rule-breakers, meaning you can't sound them out. They are very important to learn because every sentence you read has them! For example, in that sentence alone there are 9 sight words! They are important to learn because every sentence you read has them." Now imagine how hard reading is if you don't know those words. Yikes!
We have been learning sight words and taking tests. The tests are real now! If you have noticed that your child is bringing home low scores, it's a HUGE warning sign. Every teacher reviews these sight words daily, and in multiple ways with games, flash cards, fun worksheets. Low scores could mean they need to see the word more often, or they can't learn through the typical teaching strategies. That's where you come in.
What can you do as a parent?
